Stop Bullying

Bullying, harassment, or retaliation can be reported by students, parents/guardians, staff, or community members. Reports may be made in person, online, by phone, email, or anonymously.

Important Notes About Reporting

• Reports do not need to be in writing to be investigated.
• Anonymous reports are accepted; however, disciplinary action cannot be based solely on anonymous information.
• Students may ask a trusted staff member to help them make a report.
• Retaliation for reporting bullying is strictly prohibited.
• If harassment or bullying continues, report it immediately.

Definitions

• Bullying: Repeated (3 or more reported incidents) conduct that causes harm, fear, or disruption to a student’s education
• Cyberbullying: Bullying through electronic or digital means
• Retaliation: Intimidation or harassment following a report
• Aggressor: A student or staff member who engages in bullying
• Target: A student against whom bullying is directed

Once a report is received:

1. Immediate review by Security, supported by administrators
2. Investigation following district protocols
3. Support provided to students involved
4. Families notified when appropriate
5. Follow-up monitoring to prevent retaliation or reoccurance

All staff are required to report suspected bullying immediately to administration or Security.

When bullying impacts a student with a disability, the IEP Team will consider skill development and support needed to help the student prevent, avoid, or respond to bullying. Team Chairpersons are responsible for ensuring this discussion occurs.

All staff—including educators, administrators, counselors, nurses, custodians, bus drivers, coaches, and paraprofessionals—receive annual training on:

• Identifying bullying and cyberbullying
• Reporting responsibilities
• Intervention strategies
• Supporting vulnerable student populations

Training occurs annually prior to September 30, with additional training provided as needed.

Families are key partners in bullying prevention.

Each year:

• Parents/guardians are given access to our policy via Parent Square (parent communication system)
• The policy and reporting forms are available on the district website
• Educational resources are shared regarding:
  • The effects of bullying
  • Cyberbullying and online safety
  • How families can support students

Bullying and cyberbullying are prohibited:

• On school grounds and at school-sponsored activities
• On school buses, bus stops and transportation
• Through school-owned or personal technology
• Off school grounds if it creates a hostile school environment or disrupts learning

Retaliation against anyone who reports or participates in an investigation is prohibited.
