Fashion Design students, Heidy De La Cruz Chingo and Dalila Dos Reis, participated in the YWCA Red Dress Fashion Show on Thursday, February 27th at the Century House. While many women from the community wore red dresses from area boutiques, Heidy and Dalila designed and constructed their own gowns. They carefully selected their fabric, cut out all the pieces, and sewed it together with great attention to detail.
Heidy’s gown is a romantic ball gown featuring a red sequined fitted bodice with a red satin fabric under lining. It has boning and a wide sequined, full skirt, with a red satin underlining fabric. It is completed with draped sleeves and pockets.
Dalila’s dress is a red satin sheath dress with a red lace overlay. It skims the body and falls straight to the floor. The dress also has a front slit in both layers of the fabric. It has a deep v-neck, satin waistband, and long lace bell sleeves.
