Diversity Month

April is diversity month. GNBVT student council invites you to celebrate Multicultural day today by dressing up and participating in various fun activities. In honor of multicultural day, we would like to share some facts about our communities. Our three sending districts have made tremendous contributions to creating the diverse community that we have today.

The Town of Fairhaven was incorporated on February 22, 1812, separating from New Bedford over political differences concerning the War of 1812. During the 1800s, the whaling industry and its related marine trades contributed greatly to the town’s growth.

Old Dartmouth was the first area of Southeastern Massachusetts to be settled by Europeans, primarily the English. Dartmouth is part of New England’s farm coast, which consists of a chain of historic coastal villages, vineyards, and farms. June 8, 2024, marks the 360th year of Dartmouth’s incorporation as a town.

In the 19th Century, New Bedford gained a worldwide reputation as the greatest whaling port and the richest city per capita in the world. Portuguese and Cape Verdean immigrants formed the backbone of the whaling industry, on the wharfs and the high seas. New Bedford was also a center of abolitionism at this time.

Boys Track and Field

The boys track and field team won their meet yesterday against Somerset Berkley by a score of 72 to 60. The girls team lost a hard-fought contest by a score of 76 to 54. Outstanding effort by all the team members.
