On Wednesday, April 3, thirty-two sophomore students in the Legal and Protective Services shop were awarded their CERT Certification. This is the twelfth annual year that the Bristol Community Sheriff’s Office has come to GNB Voc-Tech to give our Legal students their certifications.
CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team and is the first step for these students to become first responders. All students were given a CERT bag which included various items needed to be a first responder such as a hard hat, gloves, a dust mask, and more. Thank you to the New Bedford Fire Department and New Bedford EMA for their generous donation of these CERT Equipment Bags.
Students began training in September and were able to acquire around 20 certificates to further their knowledge of CERT. For example, one certification the sophomore legal students received was being able to aid hurricane victims. Earlier this year students learned how to set up aid for people and animals that fell victim to a natural disaster. In order to receive this certification, students had to be trained in disaster preparedness, fire suppression, rescue operations, team organization, and disaster simulation, among other things. Congratulations to all of the Legal and Protective Services sophomores that received their CERT certifications.
