 Jason Leonardo Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the 1st Annual, Jason Leonardo Scholarship. Mr. Leonardo was a Class of 2000 graduate from the Plumbing and Pipefitting program here at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech. He passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2019. With generous contributions from Nicholas Caneira of Bass Reddy Rooter and the assistance of Jonathan Pacheco of F.W. Webb New Bedford, the scholarship will provide tremendous assistance to a graduate in the Plumbing and Pipefitting program.

Mr. Leonardo’s widow, Denise Leonardo, described what this scholarship meant to her,  Jason’s children, and his loving parents. “We, as Jason’s family, want to express our sincere gratitude for the scholarship in Jason Leonardo’s name. Jason was very proud to be a part of the plumbing profession. He would be very grateful knowing this will help a fellow student with their endeavors in the plumbing career. Jason would be honored to have this scholarship in his memory.”

The student winner will receive $1,000 from Bass Reddy Rooter, which will cover the tuition needed for their continuing education in the fall.

Mr. Caneira, a classmate of Mr. Leonardo, said “the scholarship means so much to me personally. Having known Mr. Leonardo along with the other members of the Plumbing class of 2000 began a friendship and camaraderie that has lasted over two decades. But mostly, the scholarship represents gratitude, opportunity, and recognition to an individual that strives to excel not only in their academic achievements but towards a vocational career.”

Mr. Caneira is hopeful that this will “prepare them for a wonderful and fulfilling career within their trade. I hold Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech, along with the wonderful memories of Jason, very dear to my heart. I hope this scholarship not only provides an opportunity to grow and learn for a deserving student but also keeps the wonderful memories of Jason alive by showing the impact he had on so many of his family, friends, and peers. I thank New Bedford Voc-Tech for including me in this terrific program and will continue to show my support for many years.”

Secondly, the student winner will receive a $500 gift card at F.W. Webb to purchase hand and power tools, and other items that may be needed to enter the workforce.

Mr. Pacheco stated that “being a part of the inaugural Jason Leonardo Scholarship Fund sure is special. I believe this is such an important cause in helping a student(s) prepare for the future in a plumbing trade which could propel them into having a great career. We at FW Webb are looking forward to contributing in the many years to come.”
