Jamie Dugas, a senior at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech, has been a pianist since she was just 6 years old. Playing the piano has been the one thing she has always wanted to pursue. Jamie is currently being trained in classical piano, and believes the classical genre is the backbone of all music. Jamie has always been a very persistent person — when asked if anyone can play piano she said, “I think anyone can play the piano. It’s about music and expressing yourself and I think anyone can have it in them if they really want it.”
Ms. Dugas plans on pursuing music as a career. Her plan includes attending University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for the 2018 fall semester. She will be majoring in music composition, and for graduate school she hopes to attend Berklee College of Music for composition as well. Music has helped her in the most difficult times, and has helped her grow. In regard to her technique, Jamie says, “Practice makes…almost perfect.”
Her confidence, and technique have grown immensely and she’s excited to see where music takes her in life. Her next task is preparing for college auditions. At first, she thought she’d never be able to memorize the pieces and master the technique for her audition. Now, she is confident that with practice, she’ll get better and she’s hopeful for the future.
