June 15, 2020

Good Afternoon GNBVT families,

We hope this letter finds all safe and healthy. We have reached the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. The school year will end tomorrow, June 16th and teachers will be finalizing student grades. This has been a trying and challenging year for so many students, families, faculty and staff. In the coming days, final grades will be available on the Aspen portal. Finally, the school administration and support staff have returned to campus using a modified reopening schedule for Phase II of the Governor’s Reopening plan for Massachusetts.

Seniors: Class of 2020 Information

Senior students are able to request “official” transcripts from Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech using this link: Transcript Request Form. It can also be access by visiting the Guidance page on the website. Please know that official transcripts will be mailed in a sealed envelope. This envelope should not be opened until it has reached the intended individual or institution as the moment the seal is broken, the transcript becomes “unofficial”.

Last week we had a successful Senior Drop-Off/Pick-Up and got to see all of our great students from the Class of 2020 as they drove through the campus, dropped off school items and picked up their records and caps and gowns for their upcoming graduation ceremony. Our faculty and staff were onsite with signs of encouragement and to wish their students well. Thank you to all the students, families, faculty and staff for a successful event. Per our message to senior families last week, there is a sign-up form for those students who believe they may have items still in the building which they need to retrieve. Please click the following link to access the sign-up form: Senior items clean-up. Those students who do sign-up are reminded that they must have BOTH a mask and gloves to enter the building to retrieve their items. Students in shops which store electronic files are reminded to bring their own flash drive. Students will be escorted by a member of our security team during this process. We kindly ask that parents or drivers of students, remain in your vehicles while the student is retrieving their items to limit the number of people in the building at any one time.

Underclassmen Locker / Item Clean-Up

Underclassman will be permitted to enter the school to cleanout lockers at designated times following all social distancing guidelines. As with the senior item clean-up, please use the following link to sign-up for a time slot: Underclassmen Item Clean-Up. Please fill-out all the information requested in the sign-up. If you have all your belongings or would prefer to wait until next school year, please do not sign-up. There are specific time slots to sign-up and it is important that the student is prompt for their time to report. The student must have BOTH a mask AND gloves and will be escorted one at a time by a member of our security team. No loitering in the parking lot will be allowed. This event will be one person at a time- NO EXCEPTIONS. Students arriving for their time slot, please report to the main entrance. Additional time slots may be added on an as-needed basis.

Virtual Summer School / Summer Enrichment Opportunities

Due to the continued uncertainty regarding the COVID pandemic, summer school will be exclusively online in a remote learning classroom. Information regarding summer school will be forthcoming for those students in need of credit recovery. Additional programming for academic support is also in the planning stages and will be communicated electronically soon.

Summer Assignments

Information regarding Math and ELA summer assignments for the 2020-2021 school year will be released electronically to all students later this week. All assignments will be completed electronically.

Benefits/Assistance Available

Finally, families should note that if finances have been impacted by the current COVID-19 healthcare crisis, you do have the ability to apply for assistance (SNAP) through the State of Massachusetts. Please visit https://dtaconnect.eohhs.mass.gov/ to apply for SNAP benefits or https://www.myschoolapps.com to complete the application for free or reduced pricing of school provided breakfast and lunches.

Sincerely,

Principals Signatures Michael P. Watson, Academic Principal Robert J. Watt, CVTE Principal
