Preparation • Passion • Perseverance

March 23, 2020

Good afternoon GNBVT students and families,

We wanted to send an update to students and parents regarding enrichment activities posted for all classes. As you are aware, the school will remain closed until at least April 7th consistent with the Governor’s directive. Teachers and staff are available via email to all of you during the school day (7:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.) Monday through Friday.

We have met with academy administrators, department chairs, and teachers in virtual meetings since last week to relay expectations that all classes have enrichment support exercises posted on the school website by Wednesday, March 25th at 7:40 a.m. Some activities will likely be prepared sooner.

The school website will direct students to access these enrichment activities for each of their courses and provide opportunities for students to continue learning during the school closure. Please remind your children this is not a school vacation and that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is encouraging schools to offer enrichment activities to support student learning during the closure.

Students should focus on the enrichment activities that are posted from March 25th to April 7th. All students are reminded again that if they have makeup work from Trimester 2 that needs completion, this is the time to make sure their work has been submitted. We are currently planning on submitting grades for Trimester 2 on April 9th and delivering report cards electronically early the following week.

You will also receive communication this afternoon/evening requesting that you provide the school with information related to your student’s internet capabilities at home while the school is closed. Please take a moment to complete the survey as it will provide information to the school regarding accessibility for students during the school closure. We are working on a plan to provide technological support to families in need of assistance – so providing feedback to us will assist in our attempt to make sure all students can make meaningful academic and vocational gains during this difficult period.

Please also note that guidance counselors are also available to all students via email as are Special Education and EL liaisons. Reach out to your guidance counselors, Mrs. Ptaszenski (Special Services) at erin.ptaszenski@gnbvt.edu or Mr. Angelo (EL coordinator) at helder.angelo@gnbvt.edu for any help. This is an unprecedented time in our lives and poses unique challenges for all of us. We are here to support you in any way that we can!

As mentioned last week, our core values challenge us to prepare, be passionate, and persevere through challenging times. We are also actively engaged in managing our local concerns with the state agencies each day while collaborating with local school districts. The COVID-19 pandemic must be taken seriously by all of us to ensure we all have the best possible outcome when it has passed. We are all in this together – take care of yourself, check in with your family and friends, and practice social distancing recommendations.

We will update you all again by the end of the week. Students- please encourage one another to work with your teachers on these enrichment activities. Parents- we need your help to encourage your children to work on all the activities teachers have spent valuable time collaborating to put together. Please let us know how we can help! Stay safe everybody!

Sincerely,
Michael P. Watson, Academic Principal
Robert J. Watt, CVTE Principal
