Culinary
Program Description
The mission of the Culinary Arts program is to offer high-quality multifaceted education to prepare students for employment in the food service industry or post secondary education. Students are exposed to a majority of basic tasks in actual live industrial conditions.
Our Program at GNBVT is nationally certified by the American Culinary Federation Foundation’s Secondary Certification Committee. The students are given the opportunity to take the ServSafe Certification exam which is required by all food handlers nationwide. The Culinary Arts students are also certified and trained in CPR and First-Aid.
The Culinary Arts staff is all highly qualified instructors with over 150 years of combined work, experience, and educational background. Four of the staff members are GNBVT alumni and all hold a degree in higher education.
The Culinary Arts program consists of hands on instruction in cooking, baking, and dining room service. Cooking involves the preparation of all types of soups, sauces, and meals using a variety of cooking techniques. Baking entails the preparation of cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and many elegant pastries and desserts. The dining room encompasses customer service relations, hosting, taking orders, serving, and micros and management fundamentals.
Culinary Arts graduates are in great demand. Our students’ education is conducted under real work situations. They have the greatest advantage for obtaining employment. Upon graduation, students may continue their education at a two or four year college or enter the workforce.
