Nurse Assisting/Health Assisting
Program Description
The Nurse Assisting/Health Assisting program provides a variety of educational experiences that prepare students for a position in the rapidly-growing and ever-changing health care field. Students learn to care for both acutely and chronically ill patients, as well as physically and developmentally challenged individuals. The patient population ranges from infants in pediatrics through adults and the elderly in acute care, Long Term Care, or Assisted Living settings.
Students are eligible to take the Massachusetts Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam upon successful completion of the junior year curriculum, which includes 21 clinical hours in a Long Term Care facility. This certification allows the students to apply for a Co-op position at the end of junior year. A Home Health Aide (HHA) and an Alzheimer’s Dementia Care certificate will be given upon successful completion of each curriculum. Students will be certified in CPR for the Healthcare Provider and Basic First Aid. Qualified senior students have the option of obtaining a Co-op job, going out on Advanced Placement, or entering the EMT course.
Graduates of Nurse Assisting/Health Assisting will be well prepared to enter the workforce or post secondary education.
