Greater New Bedford Voc Tech has an annual award that goes to the students that they consider to be the most outstanding student in the school. This year the school was hosting it’s 32nd Annual Most Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award. The award is distributed to one student from each vocational school across Massachusetts. A recipient of the award has to be nominated by that school’s Superintendent or Director. The nominated student then has to fill out an application and attend a statewide dinner in which they, and the nominees from other schools, will be honored at for their efforts. This year’s recipient for GNBVT is senior Dylan Mouri from Architectural Drafting. Dylan was able to qualify for this year’s award due to a combination of his academic and vocational grades, his attendance, his leadership qualities in a professional setting, and his involvement in the community.
Greater New Bedford Voc Tech has another recipient of a major award this year. The Walter J. Markham Award goes to a high school student that exemplifies good leadership qualities, high academic achievement, and outstanding technical accomplishments. This year’s recipient of the prestigious award is Luis Reyes-Ayala, also a senior from Architectural Drafting at Greater new Bedford Voc-Tech. Luis was able to qualify for the award through his participation in Skills USA, the National Honors Society, and also volunteering his time and Gifts to Give and also through the strong recommendation by Steve Walker, the Academy D Administrator at GNB.
