Good Afternoon GNBVT families,
Our team is working diligently each and every day to reach out to students and families. Safety remains the highest of priorities for all of us. Please continue to keep the school informed as to any family or student needs, as we remain extremely cognizant of the social/emotional impact this virus has had on members of our school community.
First, the Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech School Committee adjusted the school calendar to cancel the April vacation and continue with remote learning next week. School will NOT be in session on Monday, April 20, 2020 in observation of Patriots’ Day and will resume on Tuesday, April 21st for the remainder of the week through Friday, April 24th. The Remote Learning Schedule has been adjusted for next week as we will be in school and are expecting students to complete their weekly assignments:

Secondly, Trimester 2 Report Cards were posted to the Aspen Portal on Tuesday, 4/14/20. Guidance Counselors are reviewing student report cards and will also be reaching out to families and students in the coming weeks to address any concerns. Students should already be aware that Trimester 3 assignments are being posted and assessed using a district wide scoring rubric (distributed April 3rd and posted to school website). Those scores will be entered into the Aspen Portal as they are reviewed by teachers so families can monitor student work/progress for the 3rd Trimester. All staff members remain available Monday through Friday during regular school hours to assist students and all will be available during the scheduled “Office Hours” from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday to address any specific questions students may have on a more immediate basis.
Thirdly, families should note that if finances have been impacted by the current Covid-19 healthcare crisis, you do have the ability to apply for assistance (SNAP) through the State of Massachusetts. Please visit https://dtaconnect.eohhs.mass.gov/ to apply for SNAP benefits or https://www.myschoolapps.com to complete the application for free or reduced pricing of school provided breakfast and lunches.
Finally, to reiterate, all students should be working to complete the assignments posted electronically by teachers. These assignments will be used in computing your 3rd Trimester report card grade.
A few additional comments for specific classes:
Seniors, we know that end of year activities including graduation weigh heavily on your mind. Please be assured that it is weighing on our minds as well. As soon as information regarding a return to school is decided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we will act and, if necessary, adjust our plans. There has been no new information provided as of today.
Juniors, are reminded that senior course selection forms are due back to school electronically by Friday (April 17, 2020). This is your opportunity to select courses for the next school year.
Sophomores, the MCAS assessments for this year have been cancelled by DESE Commissioner Riley. Further information on the high school competency determination (graduation requirement) will be forthcoming.
Freshman, continue to complete assignments in both your academic and vocational programs to ensure your sophomore year begins next fall as productively as possible.
Best wishes for continued safety during this healthcare crisis. Please reach out to any member of our team with any questions and/or concerns.
Sincerely,
Michael P. Watson, Academic Principal
Robert J. Watt, CVTE Principal
