As we kick-off the new year, GNB Voc-Tech’s Superintendent-Director, Michael Watson, and Director of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Yolanda Dennis, reached out to all faculty and staff about our National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman’s latest poem “New Day’s Lyric.” They encouraged teachers to share the inspiring poem and incorporate it into the teachings, curriculum and classroom discussions, and Mr. Watson and Ms. Dennis provided useful resources to reflect on how to diversify curriculum and classroom engagement.
GNB Voc-Tech wanted to share the poem with the community as it provides a message for all to have strength to overcome the difficulties we have endured over the past few years and have the courage to heal and move forward. As a community, important steps in healing and moving forward in solidarity are to continue to educate and embrace the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion.
