GNB Voc-Tech Students Earn Academic Awards

NEW BEDFORD – More than 570 students were honored for academic excellence at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School recently. They earned Renaissance program awards for the first quarter of the school year in an awards ceremony on December 5th.

The Renaissance program recognizes academic achievement and perfect attendance among students at GNB Voc-Tech. The program aims to increase school attendance rates, improve overall academic performance, increase graduation rates, and support a positive and safe school environment, according to Renaissance co-advisor Henry Fortin.

To receive Renaissance awards, students must have good grades as well as good marks in conduct.

Twenty-three students earned Principals’ List awards for achieving all grades above 90. They include Ashley Fidalgo, Architectural Drafting; Amanda Pimental, Cosmetology; Cori Barboza, Jessica Jansen, and Brittany Moyer, Dental Assisting; Angela Bumpus and Jenna Franco, Earily Childhood Education and Teaching; Peter DaCosta, Andrew Grota, Beth Lally, Jacob Levasseur, Matthew DaCosta, and Joshua Respeto, Engineering Technology; Evan Babcock, Environmental Science and Technology; Chelsea Nunes, HVAC-R/Appliance Technology; Valerie Supczak, Information Support Services and Networking; Alyson Aguiar, Medical Assisting; Tania Castro, Jackie Moujabber, and Ashleigh Mota, Media Technology; Lia Carvalho and Chelsey Mendonca, Office Technology; and Chyla Wilson, Visual Design.

Six of the Principals’ List award winners are from Fairhaven: Ashley Fidalgo, Cori Barboza, Beth Lally, Jacob Levasseur, Lia Carvalho, and Chelsey Mendonca. Two are from Dartmouth: Jessica Jansen and Brittany Moyer. The other 15 live in New Bedford.

One hundred four students earned First Honors for achieving an average of at least 90, with all grades above 80.

Some 191students earned Second Honors for achieving an average of at least 85, with all grades above 75.

Two hundred fifty-three students earned Honorable Mention for achieving an average of at least 80, with all grades above 70.

GNB Voc-Tech provides academic instruction as well as career and technical education to more than 2,000 students from the Towns of Dartmouth and Fairhaven and the City of New Bedford. The school offers more than two dozen career majors, ranging from Fashion Design to Machine Technology.

The school is an accredited member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
