Teacher Assistant: Program Description

IT careers involve the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services. In addition to careers in the IT industry, IT careers are available in every sector of the economy - from Financial Services to Medical Services, Business to Engineering and Environmental Services.

Students entering Information Technology careers will need a solid grounding in math and science.

The Information Technology Program consists of two-year foundation level skill development in computer applications and concepts. Students in the Information Technology program learn data entry, computer operations, a variety of computer software applications and are introduced to C++ Programming, Java and HTML. Additionally, students are taught the skills necessary for A+ and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. GNB Voc-Tech is an MOS authorized testing center.

Students are introduced to Windows, the Internet and World Wide Web. Students use PCs with various peripheral devices. Local Area Networks (LAN) are used. The software and hardware used in this area parallels what is encountered in industry. During junior and senior year students will specialize in one of two career cluster areas:
