Program Description

The mission of the Culinary Arts program is to offer high-quality multifaceted education to prepare students for employment in the food service industry or post secondary education. Students are exposed to a majority of basic tasks in actual live industrial conditions.

The Culinary Arts program at GNB Voc-Tech is nationally certified. The program earned a three-year certification in 2005 from the American Culinary Federation Foundation's Secondary Certification Committee.

The Culinary Arts program consists of hands on instruction in cooking, baking, and dining room service. Cooking involves the preparation of all types of soups, sauces, and meals using a variety of cooking techniques. Baking entails the preparation of cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and many elegant pastries and desserts. Dining room management encompasses customer relations, hosting, order taking, serving, and management fundamentals.

Culinary Arts graduates are in great demand. Because of the high demand for skilled workers, all training is conducted under industrial conditions. Upon graduation, students may continue their education at a two or four year culinary college or enter the workforce.
