Program Description
Residential Remodeling and Interior Design is a two year program,
which covers many trade related fields associated with the Construction,
Painting and Designing Trades.
Students will be prepared for employment in residential remodeling and interior design
by stressing basic skills in the following areas: Understanding Housing needs,
carpentry rough and finish construction, plumbing repair and installation, electrical repair and installation,
interior design, including kitchen and bathroom cabinetry layout, utilizing the 20/20 Computer Assisted Drawing Program,
blueprint reading, painting applications, including all types of faux finishes, wall covering,
drywall installation/finishing and repairs, furniture refinishing, and ceramic tile, carpet and vinyl flooring installation.
Students also learn the proper use of staging and ladders and other equipment commonly used in the construction trades.
Upon completing the program students will be OSHA Certified in safety related areas with a 10 hour card,
required by most construction firms before employment in today's job market.
Students trained on the 20/20 CAD program for kitchen and bathroom design is a high demand field for those students seeking employment with a major home building company upon graduation. Students may also be prepared for matriculation into a two or four year interior Design College in addition, students may also be prepared for matriculation into a two or four year Interior Design College, construction management college or enter into a Business and real-estate law. In addition students may pursue a Real Estate license as another option.

Because of the complexity involved in the building and painting trades, students become experts only after many years of experience.
Upon completion of the GNB Voc-Tech Residential Remodeling and Design program, students will have a good knowledge
of the building and painting trades as well as residential computer designs.
This enables students to immediately enter the workforce in entry-level positions or pursue college or post-secondary
training to specialize in areas that may require a degree, certification or license.
Students may choose to enter two- or four-year colleges such as Northeastern, Wentworth, Mass Maritime or New England Tech to pursue
degrees in Construction Technology, Interior Design, Architectural or Civil Engineering.
Students may also pursue a real-estate school.
Career paths may take many directions. Following are a few examples.

Building Trades: carpenter, sidewaller, drywall hanger, mason / foundation, plumbing apprentice,
electrical apprentice, floor covering installer, building renovator, blueprint reader and building inspector.

Painting Trades: residential painter, commercial painter, technique painter, decorative painter, graphic designer,
wall-covering applicator, industrial painter, drywall taper and design consultant.

Technology Trades: interior designer, engineer, computer draftsperson, and kitchen / bathroom designer.
