Program Description
The Carpentry Program prepares students for employment in construction. Initially, students are taught the basic use of hand tools
and begin project work to sharpen woodworking skills.
Upon sharpening hand skills, students use portable power tools in house construction. This consists of framing exterior trim, roofing and side-walling.
When basic carpentry skills have been mastered, students bring their knowledge to many off-site construction projects.
These projects include remodeling, historical renovations and building entire houses.
These projects are done in New Bedford, Dartmouth and Fairhaven.
Upon completion of the program, graduates have entry level skills to join the work force or to pursue post-secondary education.
Students also learn the finish end of the trade, using all types of modern equipment such as table saws, planers, shapers and lathes.
They are also taught house mill construction and finish trim. This includes baseboard, casing, wainscoting, plastic laminate, and stairways.
Students also are introduced to entry-level CAD design.
