Program Description
After completing the Drafting Technology Course offered for freshmen and sophomores,
a student can enter the Architectural Drafting program and continue on with the trade until senior year.
An architectural drafter is a professional involved in the design and drafting of
various types and styles of buildings (residential, commercial, and institutional).
Students' drafting skills are developed in a design office environment, individually or as a member of a team.
Techniques in basic lettering, floor plan construction details, perspective drawing,
and model making are some of the areas covered through the hands-on experience.
Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) is offered to each student, with a state of the art AutoCAD computer system.
A basic knowledge of CAD commands and keyboard skills is developed through actual system use and application,
and progress to more advanced projects.
Students also receive specialized training and application concerning architectural drafting,
construction drafting, and construction calculations.
Upon graduation students have developed the skills and training necessary to enter this interesting and rewarding field,
or to continue their education at the college level with a possible course of study in architecture,
civil engineering, architectural engineering, landscape architecture, or interior design.
With the increasing need for housing and construction, the possibilities for future employment are promising.
